Recycling Nature Exhibit. Tyler Borchert’s sculptures of stone and wood are first made in nature, photographed on site, and then reassembled in the studio. He calls this process ‘recycling nature.’ His exhibit at The Storefront Gallery will include his free-standing sculptures, handmade flower holders, stone vases, wooden spoons, his Money Man sculpture and photography. The Circle: A Guidebook to Peace, Happiness and Truth Through Personal Geometry. A new theater piece that tells the story of a group of idealists who attempt to turn their back on the pain and suffering of the world only to discover that sometimes, the harder you try to keep something out, the more you end up letting it in. Inner Spaces II. Inner Spaces II invites you to enter the shadows of the cavernous Widow Jane Mine, a half-submerged remnant of the Industrial Age that has evolved into an underground cathedral for the arts. Inner Spaces II weaves opera, music, improv, dance, spoken word, painting, photography, video, and installation into a singular collaborative performance, exploring the archetypal elements of sight, sound, movement, and imagination and offering an unforgettable and transformative experience. Andrea Parkins/Chris Corsano Duo. Andrea Parkins is a NY-based sound artist, composer, and electro-multi-instrumentalist, known for her dynamic explorations on the electric accordion and inventive use of customized sound processing, wielding a sonic language that is both fractured and fluid. She is joined by acclaimed drummer Chris Corsano, who has toured and recorded with Bjork, Nels Cline, Thurston Moore, Kim Gordon, Jim O’Rourke and many others. No cover (donations requested). August Art Festival. Come experience this free, summer art festival where more than 30 selected local, national, and international artists will present con[temporary] videos, installations, performance art and sculptures along the mile of the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail that links the WSW studios to Rosendale. The kick-off event takes place on August 7, with the Shoulder Land Video Festival curated by Dani Leventhal and presented at the Rosendale Theatre, with a conversation and after-party at the Belltower Venue on Main Street. 845-658-9133. wsworkshop.org. Maverick Concerts: Miro Quartet. The Miro Quartet, one of the nation’s highest-profile chamber groups, will perform two of the greatest works from the string quartet repertoire: Schubert’s String Quartet No. 15 in G Major, D. 887 and Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp Minor, Op. 131. First Annual Sunflower Art Festival. A one-day art, music, and community festival, featuring a live art experience where artists of all ages and capabilities will turn over fifty blank canvases into a visual field of sunflowers through an explosion of color and creativity, live music performances all day on a main stage, and delicious local food, spirits, wine, and beer. Blood Wedding Screening. Experience a cornucopia of flamenco and classic Spanish dance when Rosendale Theatre screens Antonio Gades’ Blood Wedding, captured on HD at Teatro Real in Madrid. Gades’ powerful synthesis of flamenco, ballet, folk, and contemporary dance is considered a classic production. Flamenco artist Anna Mazo and dancers from the Vanaver Caravan will give the new stage floor a workout with live performances. Save Energy, Save Dollars Workshop. The Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) and Ulster BOCES Literacy Zone are teaming up to host this “Save Energy, Save Dollars” workshop. This free workshop provides energy saving tips and information on energy assistance programs to help residents who are facing higher energy costs. 11th Annual Hudson Valley Ribfest. Organized by the Highland Rotary Club, this is the place to be for lovers of finger-licking good food in the Northeast. The three-day fesitval is actually three events in one—a food festival, a music festival, and a sanctioned barbecue contest, where 60 teams will put their skills against some sharp competition and winners will not only receive prize money, but advance to the national finals in Kansas City. The Miracle of Mindfulness Retreat. Learn the art of mindfulness, deepen your practice, and taste the joy and peace of practicing as a community.
