Ramp Fest. Celebrate the ramp—that first foragable green, spring delicacy, and wild onion of myth and mystery. Abundant throughout the Hudson Valley, the ramp will be at the center of some insanely original dishes created by chefs from both Upstate New York and the big city. In addition to the food, there will be live entertainment and a cash bar. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door. $10 for kids under 12. Hudson Valley Garden Fair. The Hudson Valley Garden Association presents their third annual fundraising event, a one day celebration of gardening in the Hudson Valley, featuring local and specialty garden vendors, demonstrations, and local non-profit garden groups, all set in the inspiring and educational landscape gardens of Montgomery Place. Hudson River Sweep, Paddle, & Clean-Out. Start by picking up litter in the park at the boat launch, then paddle the creek in search of trash. BYO canoe, kayak, rowboat, or power boat. Beacon Second Saturday. Second Saturday is a citywide celebration of the arts, held on the second Saturday of every month, where galleries, shops, and studios stay open until 9 pm, most of which are on Main Street. The event often includes free gallery talks, live music, and wine tastings. Downtown Beacon. May 9.

Pet First Aid, CPR & Disaster Preparedness. This course is ideal for all pet owners and caregivers, covering common health and safety-related issues for dogs and cats, first aid basics, CPR, choking maneuvers, when to seek professional care, and disaster planning. Plant Sale and Open Farm. Nearly 100 varieties of vegetables, flowers, and herbs raised in the Poughkeepsie Farm Project greenhouses, as well as beautiful PFP merchandise for sale. Fourth Annual Mid Hudson Valley Walk for Celiac Disease. All proceeds from this walk will help stock the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley with gluten-free food. Beacon Open Studios. Mark your calendars for the 7th annual Beacon Open Studios, in which artists throughout the city will open their studios to the public. Painters, sculptors, photographers, jewelers, ceramicists, glass artists, multi-media and interdisciplinary artists will all be represented. A kick-off party takes place on Friday, May 15 from 6-9 pm at Two Way Brewery (18 W Main Street). May 16-17. 12-6pm. 

Memorial Day Weekend Plant Sale. The Frederick W. Vanderbilt Garden Association will hold its annual plant sale, rain or shine, on the lawn next to the Visitor Center parking lot at the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site on Route 9 in Hyde Park. Hundreds of plants will be on sale, including a wonderful variety of perennials from the Vanderbilt Formal Gardens.
