Kingston
Film Series at The
Tibetan Center. A series of unique films about Tibetan Buddhism and Tibetan
culture, by Asian, European, and American filmmakers. Werner Herzog's Wheel of
Time (2003). This film is about the creation of a Kalachakra mandala and
associated ceremonies in India. It unfolds in a dreamlike way with Herzog's
gentle voice, and is stunning in both its objectivity and sensitivity. Shadow
Circus, by Ritu Sarin and Tenzin Sonam (1998); Bringing Tibet Home by Tenzin
Tsetan Choklay (2013); and Silent Holy Stones by Pema Tseden (2005). All of
these films are by Tibetan film makers about Tibetan resistance, exile, and
life in Tibet. Pema Tseden has been described as one of the main contributors
to the emergence of Tibetan Cinema. When the Bough Breaks by Ji Dan (2011);
Lost Horizon (1937); and Nicholas Roerich: Messenger of Beauty (1997). Ji Dan
shows the struggle of migrant Chinese daughters to gain access to an education
and Messenger of Beauty is about the artist who painted the Himalayas. Each

Bike It! Youth
Bicycling Program. Open to kids aged 10-15. Eight sessions held on Saturdays
starting April 5. Each session includes instruction and a bike ride. All
participants receive a T-shirt, water bottle, patch kit and bike multi-tool.
Bikes and helmets are provided, or bring your own. Registration for YMCA
Members $30, Non-members $40. Scholarships are available-no one is turned away.

Tibetan World Music
Concert. Renowned folk and freedom singer/songwriter Techung, and his band,
will be performing. The event is a unique opportunity to hear traditional and
contemporary Tibetan music live. Tibetan music and performing arts are at risk
of disappearing in occupied Tibet, so Techung's music is a valuable

Tanaquil Le Clercq
Bio-Documentary: Afternoon of a Faun. Of the great ballerinas of the 20th
Century Tanaquil Le Clercq may have been the most transcendent. She mesmerized
viewers and choreographers alike. The film uses personal photographs and
correspondence to explore the little known romantic triangle between herself,
Jerome Robbins and George Balanchine, whom she married. She was the foremost
dancer of her day until it suddenly all stopped. At age 27, Le Clercq was
struck down by polio and paralyzed. She never danced again. Adults $10,

Art in Food and Food
in Art. Ms. Peter G. Rose- A New York Council for the Humanities Speaker will
give a lusciously illustrated slide-talk on food and drink as seen in the 17th
century Dutch Masters, and their relevance to the American Kitchen today. Ms.
Rose explores the foodways brought to America more than 300 years ago, and how these
foods were adapted under new circumstances. With slides of 40 paintings by the
Masters, this lecture will demonstrate past food practices and shed new light
