The Merchant Wine & Spirits
The Legacy of a
Local Legend
The
Merchant Wine and Spirits is a family business that has catered to the region
since 1998. With the recent passing of the store’s founder
and life-long Kingston resident, James Salzmann, the area will certainly miss
the man who had a passion for his community. However, those who learned from
and loved Jim will continue to provide the same type of conscientious, personal
service—as The Merchant is his legacy.
Said
Rick Salzmann, Jim’s brother: “His goal in starting The Merchant was to have a business
driven by competitive pricing with a broad selection and, most importantly,
great customer service. He succeeded by working long hours, knowing his
products, and establishing lasting relationships with his customers—being a
true local family business.”
Rick
stressed that Jim made certain his employees were all local people he knew well
or family members who would be an important part of the store, be knowledgeable,
and serve the community as they deserved to be.
Jim
always offered a smile, a helping hand, and a sincere desire to make his
customers’ experience a most pleasant
one. And with the motto “So Many Wines, So Little Time,” the Merchant’s
goal is to provide a range of palate-pleasers, both international and local
favorites, to delight both budget-minded enthusiasts and wine connoisseurs.
As for liquors and spirits—you’ll find the region’s
finest at prices certain to lift your own spirit. And, in addition to the
on-hand, requested customer favorites, there are occasional special samplings
of limited-time only exclusives—“destined to be just right for the season or
the reason.” It’s a way for customers to broaden their tastes, travel from
their comfort-zone, and still benefit from try-something-new affordable pricing.
Their signature “Fine
and Under Nine” selection of quality wines is a hand-picked grouping with a
diversity of type and region offering customers the perfect accompaniment to
any mood, meal, or occasion. All under nine dollars.
Said Rick,
“Jim knew that, even in tough times, it was important to take care of the
community that supported The Merchant. To provide that personal touch often
missing in today’s retail world…a friendly hello when you came in, some advice
on a bottle of wine. Something as simple as that.”
“We are
thankful to everyone who has offered their condolences and their support in the
last few weeks.”
