Point" Manolo Guerra Martis exhibit and reception. A selection of his fine art endeavors ranging over the last
50 years will be on display. He is a self taught artist and his style can be
referred to as optical and folkloric art. He uses complex methods to create his
works, combining painting, drawing, sculpture, collage and found objects to
create his fields of optical illusions. His inspiration comes from religion,

Hurley Heritage Society Guided Walking Tour. The Hurley Heritage Society is offering Hurley's Legends and Lore Walking Tour. This is a guided tour down historic Hurley's Main Street and burial grounds. Tales that have become part of Hurley's 350 years of history will be told. Child Advocacy Groups Seeks Volunteers. Court
Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA) is hosting "CASA 101,"
a comprehensive training for individuals interested in becoming advocates for
children in foster care. CASA is offering an opportunity for individuals to
work one-on-one with children in foster care. Volunteers visit regularly with
the children to whom they are assigned, advocate for the child's best interests,
and work with others in the child welfare system to ensure that children's
needs are met. The goal is to ensure that children have a voice that they can
heal from the trauma they have faced and, ultimately, that they have the love
and guidance of a safe, permanent home. There are approximately 200 children
each year in Ulster County who are neglected or abused by their parents and who
must be removed from their home. Applicants should have the ability to give at least
ten hours a month and be willing to make a commitment of at least 18 months. 209

"Connecting
the Dots". Paintings and mixed media by Angela
Rose Voulgarelis. Her numerous small-scale sculptures are made from discarded
paper and found images; juxtaposed drawings, paintings, and monoprints point
towards the collapse of time; hand held mirrors are cast in porcelain to
reflect the space around them; necklaces created using Morse code are beaded

Annual For Paws and Wright Naturals Family 5k. For Paws of Ulster, Inc. and Wright Naturals, a local all
natural products manufacturer, are teaming up to present a Family 5k to benefit
the Ulster County Dog Park. The race begins at the West Lot of the Field of
Dreams parking areas across from the Ulster County Fairgrounds. The course then
runs down the length of the gravel drive, and turns right onto Route 7
(Libertyville Road). The route crosses the town line into Gardiner where participants
follow the Wallkill River for approximately half a mile. Then it's a turn-around
and back to the starting point. Awards will be given. No dogs at the event
please. $20 until August 31, then $25. Ulster County New Paltz Recreational

Wisdom of Women—Inaugural Event. An

dance piece based on the music of aging Italian rock star Vasco Rossi, a man

short of magical—Clarke transforms Rossi's lyrics of hatred into a piece that glorifies

Congress recently purchased the entire collection of the Women's Studio
Workshop's hand-made artist's books, spanning 30 years of creativity. Ann
Kalmbach, executive director of WSW, will talk about this collaborative
achievement and how important this is for the community and artists involved.
The books cover many subjects and their sculptural integrity revisit the idea
of what a "book" can be. Personal vision, politics and narrative come

battlefield, show her support for the Civil War and its soldiers? How could a
mere infant affect the morale of soldiers? In a slide lecture focusing on
children's lives, nationally known speaker and writer Juanita Leisch Jensen
shows how contemporary views of childhood and child-rearing directly influenced
children's roles in the Civil War. The lecture will feature contemporary
engravings and photographs from the period as well as artifacts from the

many dozen MG, Triumph, Austin-Healey, Jaguar, and Morgan sports cars from the
